Relationships Education

The Department for Education is introducing compulsory Relationships Education for Primary pupils from September 2020. It is our aim at Sherwood to support our pupils to be happy, healthy and safe. We aim to provide our children with the information needed to develop healthy, nurturing relationships through their childhood and into adult life.

Relationships Education at Sherwood will start with family and friends, how to treat each other with kindness, and recognising the difference between online and offline friendships. We will support our pupils to develop respect for others and for difference.

During the Summer Term 2019, in consultation with our parents, we developed a Curriculum Overview for each Year Group. Relationships Education forms part of our PSHE Curriculum.

An overview of the Parent Consultation is available below. This was discussed in detail at our Governor Curriculum Committee meeting. In addition to the Parent Questionnaire, our Curriculum rationale and content was also discussed at our Parent Multi-Faith Group to address some concerns and questions that arose from a Faith perspective.

Parents continue to have the right to withdraw their child form Relationships Education for the Academic Year 2019-2020. From 2020, there will be no entitlement to withdraw pupils from the lessons.

We aim to work closely with our parents to deliver Relationships Education. Parents are invited to discuss any aspect of our Relationships Education with their child's class teacher or Headteacher.
