World Book Day 2021

Thursday 4th March is World Book Day. The theme this year is Share a Million Stories so why not snuggle up somewhere quiet together, and enjoy a good book for 10 minutes or more? See the rules on the What Counts as a Story Share (resource below).

The children are encouraged to record their 10 minute 'shares', on the Share a Million Reading Record (see below). We will then collect the 'shares' altogether and record them on our school target, aiming to reach a million shares in the Summer term. Completed record sheets will be entered into a prize draw after the Easter holidays, so keep it safe and give it to your class teacher when you have filled it full of 'shares' - there will be a prize for one lucky reader in EYFS and KS1, one for Years 3 and 4, and one prize for Years 5 and 6. Sherwood staff will also be taking part in the challenge - come on Team Sherwood, we can do it!

Look out on the Remote Learning pages for book-themed activities for your year group throughout the week.

The World Book Day website is full of excellent resources and videos for you to use at home, with Share a Story Live sessions beginning on Wednesday the 3rd. Or why not try an Author and Illustrator Academy masterclass?

Each child will receive a £1 World Book Day token, which we will give out on Monday 8th March when we are all back in school together. Join MC Grammar to find out how he is going to spend his £1 token with the World Book Day Rap! Tokens can be exchanged for one of  2021's £1 books or be used to get £1 off any book. Alternatively, you could keep them somewhere safe and use them at our Book Fair in May (the date on the token has been especially extended for school book fairs).

Have a fabulous week meeting new characters, and sharing different adventures, lands and experiences with each other through your love of reading and books.
