Learning About Growing in Foundation

Lesson: Science

Class: Foundation Year: 2021 - 2022

In Forest School, we have begun to tidy our raised beds in preparation for growing.  The children handled the tools with good control to dig in the soil.  They found lots of plants!  We identified the parts of a plant - the stem, the leaves, the roots and the flower and petals.  We talked about why pollinators, such as bees, are attracted to the colourful petals, and how new plants begin to grow.

The children have carefully planted vegetables to grow in our Outdoor Area.  They enjoyed learning about what a healthy plant needs to grow well, how it begins life as a seed and will grow into a seedling.  So far, we have planted tomatoes, peppers and are starting to propagate cucumbers!
