History

At Sherwood, children will learn from a high quality history curriculum, which should ignite in children, a curiosity and fascination about Britain’s past and that of the wider world.

Our teaching equips pupils with knowledge about the history of Britain and how it has influenced and been influenced by the wider world. They will also know and understand about: significant and influential ancient civilisations and empires; changes in living memory and beyond living memory; the lives of significant people of the past; the methods of historical enquiry and the asking and answering questions. We focus on the local history of  significant Prestonians, Tom Finney and Edith Rigby and history of the significant life of Rosa Parks and her impact on the wider world.

We want children to enjoy and love learning about history by gaining these knowledge and skills, not just through experiences in the classroom, but also with the use of fieldwork, visitors into school and educational visits.

As historians, we want children to be able to use a variety of sources of evidence to encourage discussion and debate. As part of our vocabulary rich curriculum, children will have a deep understanding of historical words and phrases.

We want the children to have thoroughly enjoyed learning about history, therefore encouraging them to undertake new life experiences now and in the future. Ultimately, children will know more, remember more and understand more about history and have had fun learning In a variety of different ways!
