EYFS Exciting New Arrivals

Lesson: Understanding the World

Class: Foundation Year: 2022 - 2023

The children have waited patiently for the past 21 days, watching their eggs in the incubator.  They have followed a countdown calendar and looked at the changes inside the egg each day, using a chart.  Yesterday, they noticed some of the eggs rocking and small cracks and holes appearing in the egg shells.  Last night we set up a time lapse camera to see what happened.  This morning, the excited children were greeted with 5 newly hatched chicks.  Next, they watched the video and saw how the chicks unzipped themselves out of their eggs.  During explore time the children saw the final 2 chicks hatch inside the incubator.  The children have been vigilant observing the chicks all day and using a suggestion box to put forward their ideas for names.  All 7 chicks are now safely together in their crate and we are looking forward to looking after them and watching them grow and change over the next few weeks.
