Special Places

Lesson: EYFS

Class: Foundation Year: 2023 - 2024

This half term the children in Foundation have been exploring the theme of 'Special Places'. We began by looking at different interesting places around the world and thought of words to describe them - busy, calm, dangerous, noisy, quiet etc. We learnt the word 'Holy' and what this means when describing a place.

Our Persona Doll, Imran, came to visit our class and helped us learn all about the special place for Muslims - the Mosque. The children listened beautifully and really enjoyed exploring the Mosque role play area and playing with the small world Mosque. Through this play, the children demonstrated a great understanding of how Muslims behave when at the Mosque and have shown great respect.

Last week we learnt from our Personal Doll, Rita, that the special place for Hindus is called the Mandir. The role play area has changed into a Mandir and the children are making great connections between the two faiths that we have learnt about so far. For example, both Hindus and Muslims take off their shoes before entering their holy building.

Over the next couple of weeks we will learn about the Church, the special place for Christians. As part of this learning, the children will be visiting the North Preston Evangelical Church.
