Sherwood Spelling Bee 2024

We are very excited to hold our annual ‘Spelling Bee’ once again, this half term. Every child in school will take part in a series of spelling challenges, with the opportunity to win points for their Houses and individual prizes. There will be a series of Rounds, with Round 1 taking place next week. Children in Foundation and Year 1 will take part in challenges within their daily phonics groups.

For Round 1, the children in Years 2 to 6 will complete spelling challenges, based on the common exception words (Y2) and statutory word lists (Y3 to Y6) for their relevant year group, which they have been learning throughout the year in class. Children in Years 2 to 6 can find their word lists in the back of their diaries.

These spelling challenges will help each class to find ‘Star Bees’ who will represent their Houses in inter-house challenges (Round 2), during the week beginning 24th June. For Round 2, the children will be tested on the spelling rules and patterns that they have been exploring in class throughout the year.
