Year 2’s Relief Printing Blocks

Year 2 have been busy making relief printing blocks from rubber bands!  As part of the textiles unit in art, they wrapped rubber bands around a square of card to create a line design.  They applied their previous experience of using rollers and ink pads to transfer black paint onto their printing block and press a print into their sketchbooks.  Finally, they printed their design onto white fabric.  The children learned how printing can be used to make multiple copies and is used in the art industry to create wallpaper, clothing, fabrics for curtains and upholstery.
