Sherwood Celebrates the Coronation of King Charles III
On Thursday 4th and Friday 5th May 2023, we celebrated the Coronation of King Charles III at Sherwood. On Thursday 4th May, we joined together to enjoy a Coronation Picnic on the School field. We listened to classical music, historically used for speical occasions.
On Friday 5th May, our staff and children dressed to impress! It was wonderful to see our children and staff showcasing their individuality, cultural heritage and faith.
On Friday afternoon, we celebrated King Charles’ commitment to environmental sustainability. We sang ‘Save our Planet’ in the presence of our family and friends. We held a collection to install a new Flora and Fauna interpretation board in the School grounds, showcasing our natural diversity at Sherwood. Well done to our soloist, Ella Wardman and our choral group: Evie Dickinson, Ava Booth, Hareem Muhammad and Anjani Gupta, Year 4, for singing and sharing such powerful messages.
Our children in EYFS led The King’s Procession around the School grounds, our King and Queen were crowned and we demonstrated true Sherwood perseverance as we sang God Save the King in torrential rain. Thank you to Catherine Quan and Zayd Shaik, Year 6, for singing the solo section of The National Anthem.
Our School values of respect, perseverance and aspiration were at the heart of our celebrations.
Our children and staff all received a Coronation Bookmark, kindly donated by our PTA as a keepsake from this historic occasion.
As with any special or historic occasion, the strength of our School Community shone through our celebrations last week. Our children demonstrated how proud they are to be part of our School family. The shared ambition of our School Community and our exceptional relationships, were showcased for all to see. Thank you for your support. We are Sherwood!
