DT - Moving toys (Automata)

Lesson: Design and technology

Class: Year 5 Year: 2023 - 2024

The DT topic for spring term was all connected to Mechanical systems and had a link to the English novel of Hugo Cabret. The children looked at movement in different Cams and the properties that make toys more enjoyable. The children then used measuring techniques along with accurate cutting of wood to produce a frame for their moving toy. This was then enhanced with their choice of CAM before characters and background scenery was added. All of the moving toys will be on display in school as the children completed the task with accuracy. 

The next step was to think about ways to improve the design if we were to complete again (the iterative process). Children looked for enhancements and improvements along the design and build procedures. 

All of the children worked incredibly hard.
