Year 2 Painting in Response to Cornish Artist, Anthony Frost

Lesson: Art and design

Class: Year 2 Year: 2023 - 2024

Year 2 explored the abstract work of Cornish artist, Anthony Frost.  The identified the shapes, colours and textures in his work.  The first step was to construct a surface to paint on using a range of fabrics, papers and strings.  Anthony Frost used real fishing nets in his work, so we frayed the hessian to represent nets too!  The children learnt about 'layering' up a surface and what an 'abstract' painting was.  The next lesson, we 'overworked' our textured surface with bold primary colours, just like Anthony Frost.  We added white to lighten a colour tint and discussed the affect we had created in groups.
