Year 2 Printing Projects

Year 2 have really loved using the printing tools and learning a range of printing techniques.  First, they used rubber bands to produce relief printing blocks.   They 'inked up a slab' using the printing rollers then made multiple prints on different surfaces.  

The following week, the children rolled out a clay slab, made impressions in the surface to make a relief block.  They then used the three primary colours to create layering of colours from light to dark.  

To challenge the children and extend their knowledge, we created a 'unique state print' by trapping their prints between layers of tissue paper.  The children commented on the translucency of the tissue overlay and how it changed the image and colours in their prints.  The class enjoyed a 'walking gallery,' making reflective comments about their own and others' work.
