Year 5 Mono-printing and Reduction Press Printing Techniques

Year 5 have explored a range of printing techniques using block printing ink, brusho and rollers to ink-up a slab and create their own designs.  They created positive and negative stencil prints with natural objects, then overworked their prints with a mono print of a fir tree branch.  

We then moved on to geometric designs, linking with our study of Islamic patterns, to create a reduction press print.  This involved layering in the three primary colours, one layer each week, to 'worry away' our tile a little more to apply a new layer of printing ink on our original print.

They look stunning!  The children loved the whole process of building up layers over three weeks and made reflective comments on their own and others' final pieces.  Well done Year 5!
